This morning we traveled from Xela to Chwitziribal to visit a small elementary school. It was amazing to see all the children immersed in their education with such happiness and excitement. Though they do not have very much, they make the most of everything they have and put so much effort into their work. We did three crafts involving the earth and taking care of the planet; the kids were meticulous about making their art perfect. We also played parachute games with them and they were so energetic. The principal and teachers were so appreciative of all the school supplies we donated (thanks again for helping us gather so much). It was a wonderful time spent with such lovely people.

After visiting the school we drove to the natural hot springs for a relaxing swim. It was a great way to recharge and relax after so many action packed days. The scenery around us was beautiful and the water was very soothing. I did stub my toe on the rocks (toenail falling off; pretty gross), but swimming was a great distraction.

Back in Xela, everything was closed due to one of many protests going on throughout Guatemala. Politics is a very big topic right now because the President is accused of serious crimes and the Vice President is in custody. After dealing with immense amounts of corruption the people of Guatemala want change and are now rising up to make their voices heard. There were crowds chanting in the square of Xela with flags, signs, and whistles. Each person was proud of what they were doing and showed so much strength. It was a truly great moment to witness. This day was magical, and will be tough to beat!

Adios!
