On Sunday, October 18, at 4 pm, we will be holding a Jazz Vespers online. The vespers will feature two amazing local jazz musicians: Gabriel Mark Hasselbach - trumpet/flute/flugelhorn - and Miles Black, piano. Rev Sophia Ducey will be sharing readings and prayers.
Based in Vancouver, Miles Black is one of Canada's most accomplished and in-demand jazz pianists. He is also sought after as an arranger, producer, composer, session musician, guitarist, vocalist, bassist, saxophonist, songwriter, and musical theatre director. Adding to that, he has worked as a music therapist and collegiate music instructor. Black grew up in a home filled with music of his father, a guitarist, and his musician friends. He started his music studies on piano when he was eleven. By the age of 18, he had worked professionally as a versatile musician. He credits his success to the support and encouragement of both his piano teacher George Essihos and his parents.
