Today is a turning point in the winter season, almost the end of Christmas and the beginning of Epiphany. Let’s prepare to hear the story of the three Magi, and the giving of special gifts. We’re not quite ready to return to “ordinary” life after some joyous celebrations, so the readings invite us to contemplate the signs and wonders that call us to holiness in every moment. Look! The light is returning, the star guides us on, and God’s gifts are always with us. What do gold, frankincense and myrrh mean to us today? What are the gifts that we value within our own lives, how do we offer them in the modern world? What is the mystery of the light that leads us to faith and love?
We will have a little “parade” for the AWE moment, so all (young and the not so young) can be the Magi or the Star, and everyone is invited to bring up any baby gifts for the Tweedie family or food bank contributions at this time. Wear a costume if you wish or stay in your seat and enjoy the music. God needs all of us to share in whatever way is best for you.
