Our second JAZZ VESPERS is coming up!

On Sunday, February 16, at 4pm, our newest worshipful offering, Jazz Vespers, will take place again. This time it will feature the Vancouver-based Aaron Hardie Quartet.

Aaron Hardie is an alto-saxophonist, deeply influenced by the jazz alto masters past and present, who brings a robust sound and an energetic approach to the instrument. He studied music at Capilano College and was the 2001 recipient of the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences Music Education Award for Capilano College. Aaron Hardie performs as a freelance musician with ensembles of various sizes and music styles. He teaches saxophone privately and has worked in both the public and private school systems as a Band Instructor.

Aaron Hardie works with many top musicians in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland to perform his original modern jazz compositions, as well as standard repertoire in a quartet format. For this occasion, alongside Aaron leading on the alto-saxophone, these excellent musicians will complete the quartet: Lorne Kellett—Piano, Graham Clark—Bass and Craig Scott—Drums.

The music chosen for this vespers will be a tribute to the giants of jazz and their immeasurable contribution to the world of music, as part of honouring Black History Month. Prayers, readings and meditations will alternate with the music selections. Rev Hilde Seal will draw freely from a variety of sources for thematic inspiration.

A voluntary offering will be collected during the service (suggested donation of $10.00 per person) to help support this new ministry. Refreshments and fellowship will follow.

You will return home relaxed, uplifted, inspired, and ready to start a new week - a delightful way to spend an hour on a Sunday evening.

Please mark your calendars. ALL are WELCOME!
