Peter was given the keys to the kingdom of heaven and the establishment of the foundation of the church based upon his response to the question "Who Do You Say that I Am?" by Jesus. The keys to the kingdom were based on Peter's testimony and not his merit as a disciple. We are called to testify to the impact of Jesus Christ in our lives and to our personal and communal experiences of God. We become not only individual testifiers within a community but a community that testifies to the life-giving gospel of Jesus Christ. We all receive the keys to the kingdom freely and without condition.
