As the weather cools down, the leaves fall, and the smell and sound of rain once again become familiar, All Saints Day draws near. We consider a time beyond the grave, and questions naturally arise.
As we read Revelation and hear John's account of Lazarus' resurrection, we can't help but wonder... Was Lazarus grateful for rising from the dead? Was the pain of death twice over worth the short time he had resurrected on Earth? What were the consequences for his family? Is resurrection painful?
Whatever we believe about the afterlife, remaining open to possibility and hope are central to our tradition and scripture. Bring your memories and your hopes, as we pay tribute to our ancestors, all those we lost this year, and all those we miss who have gone before us. We thank the ancestors and breathe new life as a resurrected people.
Come, you are welcome at our worship service. Let us praise God together.
